Nepalese Tharu Shaman's Drum

Decoration | Artifacts
Price AUD380,00
A shaman's drum from the Tharu people of the Tarai region of southern Nepal.  Wooden frame with leather hide stretched over it, still showing traces of fur at edges, bamboo handles with iron ring mounts.  Early 20th century.
We have seen footage of these drums being used.  The drum is held close to the chest and beaten while the shaman, in a trance state, chants and dances in a tight circle, within a larger circle of other shamans, all moving in synchronicity.
Measurements Length 43 cm, width 37 cm, depth 7 cm
