This carved hardwood statue is probably an ancestor figure. We are also uncertain as to it's origin - the hair style and posture strongly suggests a Naga origin.  The statue is old, at least early 20th Century and may possibly be older.  Originally coated with a black tar-like substance to protect the wood, the piece is very well preserved and has a beautiful aged patina.
